A shutdown is the one window in the year when the whole line is open. Custom Millwright Services plans and carries out summer and winter shutdowns, turnarounds and installation projects for plants, mills and ag operations across Saskatchewan, Alberta and Manitoba.
What we do during a shutdown
- Planned inspection and repair of conveyors, gearboxes, bearings, fans, blowers and drives
- Wear liner replacements and hopper modifications
- Equipment removals, installs and retrofits, from the bare foundation to the final bolt
- Conveyor and catwalk installs, grain dryer installs and new leg systems on grain elevators
- Custom parts built in our own shop: brackets, shafts, guards, chutes and specialty components
Planning the work
Most shutdown problems start months before the first bolt comes out. We walk the site with your team, build the scope and parts list, and book the crew early, because skilled millwright labour on the prairies is tight in shutdown season. As a rule of thumb, lock in your maintenance partner and your dates about four months out. Read more about planning a turnaround.
Installation and upgrade projects
Not every project fits inside a shutdown. We also install new systems and retrofit old ones as stand-alone projects: new conveyors, elevator legs, dryers, blowers and catwalks, with the fabrication done in-house so parts are ready when the crew needs them. For moves or installs involving heavy components, we plan the lift with you before the work starts.
Safety and site access
Custom Millwright Services is a member contractor with both ISNetworld and Avetta, so for sites that require pre-qualified contractors our standing is already on file.
Where we work
